When cyber criminals use your phone number
Cyber criminals are utilizing a new scam that calls or texts you from your own phone number to steal money, passwords, user IDs and personal information. If you get a call or text from your own phone number, or any unknown caller:
- Do not answer calls, reply to texts, open any attachments, or select any links.
- Delete any suspicious texts.
- Use malware protection on your devices, and update your phone and apps to block spam calls and texts.
- If your phone number is being spoofed, blocked, or labeled as potential spam, you can fill out an FCC Phone Complaint form where must select “Unwanted Calls” as the phone Issue and then “my own number is being spoofed” as the sub-issue.
