Three steps to protect your credit and finances
With attempts at fraud increasing over the holidays, it is a good time to check your credit reports and protect your financial assets. To protect against such fraud attempts:
- Review your credit report and dispute any fraudulent transactions. You can request credit reports online from the three major credit reporting agencies – Equifax, Experian, and Transunion – or by calling (877) 322-8228.
- To prevent cyber criminals from opening credit card accounts or loans in your name, place a credit freeze with each of the three major credit reporting agencies. These can be unfrozen when you need to obtain credit.
- Change passwords on your email, banking, and other personal accounts a minimum of every six months with LONG and STRONG passwords/passphrases, and always take advantage of multi-factor authentication.
