Telework Reminders – Stay Vigilant!
As teleworking continues to support ongoing operations, criminals are targeting users and systems for-profit and disruption. The recent pipeline ransomware attack appears to have been designed by the hacker group “DarkSide” to encrypt company data for profit, rather than disruption. This attack caused the pipeline company to shut down operations to mitigate the damage-causing significant chaos down the oil supply chain.
Staff continue to be the critical front line of defense against these types of ransomware attacks. Remember to keep software updated; use unique, long, strong, frequently-changed passwords; and use multi-factor authentication to defend against cyber attacks. Most importantly, validate emails and senders before opening attachments and links. It takes only a second to click and infect your entire PC, laptop, or network. Use these Telework Cyber Tips to prevent operational disruption from a ransomware attack.
