Say no to public Wi-Fi

Graphic with a red pause button, a yellow check mark, and a green play button and the words pause, verify, report on the go underneath.

When state employees are commuting or travelling away from their secured workstations, don’t use public Wi-Fi even if it has a password.  Public Wi-Fi is not secure, even if VPN is used. Hackers are lurking on public Wi-Fi and can attack the networks of anyone using that network.

Action Steps

State employees should PAUSE and VERIFY that they are following departmental telework and travel policies before attempting to access work networks, sites, emails, and files.  Use of cellular network, and cellular hotspots, are more secure, and office-issued VPN is a must.

Access to Commonwealth of Massachusetts work networks should be limited unless an authorized, secure, alternative provided by departmental IT security is available.
