Make sure your software is patched
Patches are software and operating system updates that address security vulnerabilities within a program or product. Keeping current with software patches and updates is a critical set of internal controls to protect work networks, data and devices by reducing security vulnerabilities.
ACTION STEPS
- As part of IT internal controls, department IT staff should schedule and monitor routine patches and updates for networks and devices, with special attention to security patch alerts.
- At home, employees can increase protections by regularly updating anti-virus, phone apps, browsers and system updates.
See our CTR Cyber page for more cybersecurity internal controls.
