Holiday email and text scams are back
This holiday season, expect an increase in phishing emails and texts offering things such as coupons, free gifts, or Black Friday deals just for you. Many of these offers are fraudulent and responding to them puts you at risk for financial loss or ransomware and viruses. To stay safe, do the following:
- Never open shopping-related emails or texts on office equipment because the employer network may be compromised.
- Do not shop online using office-issued equipment.
- Don’t access coupons or other links in emails or text without first checking the official website of the business to validate that any links you received are to the official shopping site.
- Check for scams at the Better Business Bureau BBB Scam tracker site
