Be Protected and “SLAMB” Your Updates

Cybersecurity Awareness Month / #31Days of Cybersecurity

With the threats of ransomware, phishing attacks, and organized cybercrime prevalent, simple steps can greatly increase protections to your work and accounts and networks.

ACTION STEPS:  Add recurring calendar reminders to “SLAMB” your updates!

S Social Media: Update your social media apps and accounts at least monthly, or whenever an update notice pops up. Update your passwords every few months and NEVER share passwords across apps at home or at work.  Social media is a key target that cybercriminals use to scrape your passwords and personal data that can be used to hack into other accounts at home and at work.

LLaptops and desktops: Follow your IT staff directions to update your work equipment operating systems, and enable automatic updates on home equipment so you are using the latest security versions.

AApple and Android: Update all mobile devices as soon as patches come out.

MMalware/Virus software and Multi-Factor Authentication: Follow your IT staff directions for updating virus and malware protections and scans.  At home, regular updates on your workstation and mobile devices and scanning weekly will provide better protections.  Always set up and use multi-factor authentication for all accounts.

BBrowsers and Banking: Don’t save passwords to your browsers.  Always use multi factor authentication and make sure your browsers and banking apps are updated regularly to the latest version.
