Commonwealth of Massachusetts awarded Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for 34th consecutive year
The Office of the Comptroller is pleased to announce that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada. The Certificate is presented annually and is the highest award in the field of governmental accounting and government financial reporting. This award recognizes the Commonwealth’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the Fiscal Year ended June 30, 2023.
When a Certificate of Achievement is awarded to a government entity, an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement (AFRA) is also presented to the individual(s) or department designated by the government as primarily responsible for its having earned the Certificate. This AFRA is presented to the Statewide General Accounting Team within the Office of the Comptroller and Assistant Comptroller / Chief Accounting Officer Kristin Lacroix.
This marks the 34th consecutive year in which the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.
“The Statewide General Accounting Team, under the direction of Kristin Lacroix, represent the ideal of public service and professionalism,” Comptroller William McNamara said. “We are fortunate to have such dedicated team members who lend their great talents towards a detailed and accurate accounting of the Commonwealth’s finances. I thank them for their expertise and commitment.”
Said Assistant Comptroller / Chief Accounting Officer Kristin Lacroix, “I thank the Government Finance Officers Association for this prestigious award. Each member of Statewide General Accounting team is an exceptionally talented and committed individual. I am so pleased to have their contribution to the Fiscal Year 2023 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report recognized. We will continue in our mission to provide accurate reporting and accounting of the finances of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.”
According to the GFOA, the Fiscal Year 2023 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the standards of a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate the Commonwealth’s financial story, and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
The attainment of the Certificate of Achievement in Financial Reporting represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
