Be careful of donation scams, petitions and surveys
Online and text scams continue to increase, especially during the holidays when you may be considering online charitable donations.
Action steps:
- For any request for donations, validate via the official charity website.
- Verify personal donation sites such as GoFundMe pages that may be spoofed or fraudulent.
- Go directly to your PayPal or Venmo page to log in, not through a redirect, since you may be redirected to a site that can steal your login credentials.
- Be careful of Facebook, YouTube and other online surveys or petitions that can collect your data or have malicious malware that can infect your phone or other devices.
- Update your passwords for banking and money apps right after you make your holiday donations and finish shopping for added protection.
