Ready, set, and test a backup plan to stay cyber safe
Ransomware attacks are hitting most industries, including the government. State agency leadership should ensure that they are actively working on a backup plan or a Plan B if any one of their critical systems are off-line.
State agency leadership should annually update their internal control plan which includes updates to disaster recovery, incident response, and business continuity plans. Lead the conversation to make sure each agency stays cyber safe and has a Plan B.
ACTION STEPS:
- Discuss with fiscal, HR, payroll, technology, operational and legal staff to identify and test a backup plan for how you will continue to operate, communicate, and provide key services if a critical system is unavailable.
- Update your internal controls to support your backup plan and train staff to be prepared to immediately implement.
